BIOL3149 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Coffee Filter, Cell Envelope, Cell Membrane
Document Summary
Biggest difference in regards to cell wall. Periplasm liquid; fluid btw cytoplasm & cell wall membrane; has transporter proteins for sugar, won"t be asked about it. Some bacteria have an s layer (not all species) Allows something to go in, and some things to go out. Ecoli, hard to get antibiotic to enter the cell. Difficulty with gram is penetrating membrane for treatment. Gram + is very porous, only has 1 cell membrane, easier for it to go through it. Some cells have flagella on their outside membrane. Cell can sense a more favorable environment, cell can move because of flagella. Point of origin ori ; where replication happens. To be transcribed, have dna polymeres which bind dna generate mrna (messanger rna which is a template for protein) (described process transcription) Then has to be folded to become functional process done by chaperones. All of this happens in the cytoplasn because no membrane bound dna.
