ANP 1105 Lecture 4: (2) Chapter 1.5 Nervous System
Document Summary
3 functional regions: receptive region, conducting region, secretory region. Nissl bodies: clusters of free ribosomes in the neuron cell body. Ganglion in peripheral nucleus in central nervous system. Tract: bundle of nerve processes in central nervous system. Nerve: bundle of nerve processes in peripheral nervous system. The stimulus from the dendrites can have a strong enough power to activate the action potential which will be fired where the cell body of the neuron narrows down. The action potential continues to fire throughout the axon. The speed of the transmissions increases with the increase of the axon diameter (larger diameter allows for more ions to move through the axon) Neurotransmitters convey the information and move through the axon while also going through the synapses. Axons has similar organelles as the cell body but does not have nissl bodies. If axons are completely cut, they will degenerate and will not be able to repair itself.
