ANP 1106 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Intraocular Pressure, Visual Phototransduction, Achromatopsia
Document Summary
Smell: organ and epithelium: the olfactory organ is in the roof of the nasal cavity, receptor area of olfactory system is made of epithelium which contains 3 kinds of cells. Olfactory - with olfactory cilia that detect odor. Basal - regenerate the other 2 types (60 days) Hearing & balance: structures: 3 parts of ear. Middle forms tympanic cavity - contains ossicles for transmitting movements of tympanic membrane to oval window tympanic cavity open into the pharyngotympanic tube that leads to the nasopharynx. Inner (aka labyrinth) contains sensory receptors in the temporal bone, formed of a bony labyrinth (contains cochlea, vestibule, and semicircular canals) covered with endostium. Cochlear duct is the labyrinth in the cochlea which transduces sound. Utricule and saccule are the membranous labyrinth in the vestibule which transduce head posture. Semicircular ducts are the membranous labyrinth in semicircular canals which transduce head movement.
