ANP 1107 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Avail, Prostaglandin, Innate Immune System
Document Summary
Leukopoiesis: production of wbc - stimulated by chem messengers = either as paracrines or hormones are glycoproteins. 2 families of hematopoietic factors: interleukins & colony-stimulating factors of csfs (stimulate production of granulocyte) These are release by supporting cells of red bone marrow & mature wbcs. Leukocyte formation: hematopoietic cell = starting point which gives rise to all formed elements in blood. Bone marrow stores mature granulocytes & contain 10x more than in blood. Ratio of granu to erythro is 3:1; lifespan of granu: 0. 25 to 9. 0 days (most die in fighting organisms) Difference btw 2 types of agranulocytes: (1) monocytes - derived from myeloid stem cells & share precursor w/ neutrophils. Also cells following monocyte line pass through monoblasts & promonocytes stages before leaving bone marrow - > mono (2) t & b lympho - derived from t & b lympho precursors arised from lymphoid stem cell.
