Document Summary

Describe and difereniate the two cell-death mechanism and explain the role of mitochondria and calcium in each. The size of an organ or organism depends on the total cell mass; the cell number must be controlled. Damaged cells need to die someimes, it doesn"t always occur when there"s something wrong with the cell though. Chemical messengers (growth factors, mitogens-cell division, survival factors) Stress (toxicity, damage, dyshomeostasis-being out of homeostasis, etc. ) All reasons for cell death lead to changes in the cell which lead to its demise. Communicaion mechanisms (signal transtecion) there are diferent messengers that travel from cell to cell telling it that the cell needs to die. Survival factors is when the cell receives the message to no longer stay healthy. Mechanism for how the cell is going to die can be diferent. Caenorhabdiits elegnas is a nematode with 959 somaic cells.
