Document Summary

A lot of backup pathways but also a lot of things that happen to have an outcome. Look at the connections between the simple mechanisms and simple structures. Usually there is induction when developing the optic nerve vesicle in xenopus. Transplanting cells that were induced to form lens cell into the ectodermal tissue. So the ectodermal tissue can be induced to turn into lens cell. But if you transplant the lens cells, the signals do not make the other ectoderm turn into lens cells. So certain areas of cells are competent to respond and some are not. In the presence of tissue a, responder tissue b, dev in a certain way. In the absence of tissue a, responder b doesn"t dev in that way. In the absence of a, but with tissue c, tissue b still does not dev in that way (1) Source of dermal mesenchymal determines the epidermal epithelium.
