Physically or biologically complex habitats furnish more niches. More time permits more complete colonization and the evolution of new species. Richness is limited by the partitioning of energy among species. Competition favors reduced niche breads, competitive exclusion eliminates species. Factor: climate, climate variability, habitat heterogeneity, history, energy, competition, predation, disturbance. Diversity varies between the 3 hot deserts in the usa. Methods: same methods for lizards and snakes adjust corrections if needed. We won"t know the curve before we start, we need to observe it afterwards. Methods (diversity): calculate richness, calculate shannon and simpson"s diversity indexes compare values for the 3 deserts.
