Psychology is a science: objective as opposed to subjective. Naturalistic: watching individual in their natural setting. Likely to see very typical behavior if you go unnoticed. No control over the setting or conditions (watching during gym vs during a test prob less smiley) Structured: we have some control, people are still free to behave how they want, but there are still some limits. Everyone has the same experience (everyone is during gym not some gym some during test). Structured observation video: one way mirror being used to observe parents playing with their children. Time sampling: set a period of time and we record behaviors during set time and within that time. No clear definition of what the behavior we were observing was. Issues with observation: have to ensure reliability and that we are all coding things in the same way, very easy for us to influence participants, the baby human scale error video.
