CLA 2101 Lecture 7: Lect. 7 - The Rise of the Minoan Palaces Pt. 1 - Knossos
Document Summary
The minoan palace and its role in society. They built the palace around the court when the elites took over. Also, the three palaces have the administration and storages in the west end. In knossos, it is where the shrine was situated. They all have the pier and door partition (you can put wooden doors that could close and open depending on what was being held private or public). Each palace had this but in slightly different forms. Evans believed you had to go downstairs and wash yourself before going to the throne room. He restored this with the throne room like they were created at the same time. The light well is open to the sky but this room is pitch black. If you"re trying to see visitors, it would be really difficult to do so. The halls would be just for the elites because they were not too large.
