Document Summary
Formulaion of strategy -> collecing and recording of evidence -> processing and analysis-> publicaion. Archaeology is destrucive, need to survey prior to gain that informaion before. How does an archaeologist discover a site: ground reconnaissance, historical sources: places names; ex. Nonsites- some but not enough to determine a site: aerial reconnaissance: larger picture of the ground elements. Not only recoding of prominent features in the landscape but also less prominent signs (or even when there are hardly any remains let: of site, non-site) Not only human remains but also natural remains (minerals etc) Not only looking for sites but within their environment/landscape. Looking for setlement paterns in the landscape: distribuion of sites across the landscape within a region ( landscape archaeology") Surveys are not pre-stage of excavaion any more but have developed into separate archaeological projects: combinaion with excavaions or separate projects (for ex. To study populaion growth in a region etc)
