• As our self concept (ideal self, self image, self esteem) develops it divides into
• Self image (our views of our self)
• Body image disturbance- vision of ourselves physically is quite different from what
others would see
• Looking glass self (how we think others see us)
• What other people see is not necessarily more real than what we see
• We draw on what other people see of us to determine our real self
• Ideal self the perso e’d like to e
• Real self (the person we actually are)
• Combination of how others see us plus some undetermined reality
• Hard to determine but more or less authentic representation of who we are
• **Self concept-thoughts and feelings of our identity. Self image is narrower and would fit
