Two spirited people
Through epath, e a get a sese of others’ eperiee
Two spirit- notion of having both male and female characteristics in a person
Perspective of both of those worlds- you carry both gendered traits
You can possess both personalities
In first nations history, people who were deemed two spirited were deemed very special
Desirable role in society

Our ultiple selves…
As our self concept (ideal self, self image, self esteem) develops it divides into
Self image (our views of our self)
Body image disturbance- vision of ourselves physically is quite different from what
others would see
Looking glass self (how we think others see us)
What other people see is not necessarily more real than what we see
We draw on what other people see of us to determine our real self
Ideal self the perso e’d like to e
Real self (the person we actually are)
Combination of how others see us plus some undetermined reality
Hard to determine but more or less authentic representation of who we are
**Self concept-thoughts and feelings of our identity. Self image is narrower and would fit
within self concept and tends to emphasize the physical self- hat e look like. The’re er
closely related
We’re apale of adaptig ourselves to different situations. Ex: behaviour at work vs. out for
beer with friends

…. Ca soeties clash
If there’s a ig gap etee our ideal self and your self image,
this can lower self esteem
Ex: Homer has a gap between his self image and real self
He sees himself as better than he is- he sees himself very
close to his ideal self which is not accurate
Homer is actually seeing himself as quite close to his ideal
self.
The loser that the’re aliged, the ore e ko ourseles, the ore authentic we are, and
the less distress we may experience
People with high self esteem tend to think well of others
When we expect to be rejected- we may behave in ways that would lead to that rejection (ex:
ehaiours like distaig ourself, do’t sho up, et.
