Ex. smiling warmly while saying i love you . Nonverbal cues that control and manage the flow of communication between people. Ex. raising a hand in class to indicate you want to speak. Ex. indicating someone to go at a stop sign with a hand signal. Ex. raising finger to say wait until i finish . Also perform a substitution function because takes the place of verbal communication. Ex. adjusting clothes, shifting position, twisting hair. Conveys information which may be meaningful or meaningless.
