CMN 2148 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Cultural Relativism, Organizational Communication
Document Summary
Value: concept that refers to the relative worth of a quality or object: individual and organizational values, value orientations, value congruence, terminal values, instrumental values. Concerns for end states of existence or desirable goals. Desirable behaviors or modes of conduct that are related to and influence. Value we place as organizational members on connections between our efforts and the success or failure of the organization. Value we place on recognition of work, positive feedback, and the use of terminal values. Work values that affect behaviour: locus of control, self-esteem our contributions, tolerance of ambiguity environments, social judgement about why people work, risk taking. Value or importance we place on structured or unstructured work. Value we place on the feelings of others and our general assumptions. Value that explores the importance we place on quick rather than deliberative action and whether we prefer our own sense of job fulfillment as opposed to job security.
