Start to get to big question of why do people engage in criminal behaviour? . Begins in second half of 19 century. They don"t just want answers on a supernatural level. They want to know why crimi- nals commit the crimes. Then they can predict when they commit crimes, so they can be able to prevent the crimes. Paradigm: - framework that shares set of assumptions. Within paradigm you can have different theories. Soft: conditional free will. individuals when making decisions have a constrained free will. Differentiation: idea that people who commit crimes; there is something different about them either biological, psychological or sociologically. Classical school did not locate causes of crime. They didn"t answer the question of why? ! Are criminal and non-criminal"s really that different!
