Official crime statistics are collected by the police and other justice officials from crimes reported to them or through interviews with individual citizens about instances in which they were victimized. Police-reported crime statistics are crime data collected by the police, including how many crimes are cleared (i. e. solved) broken down according to crime, city, etc. The ucr was launched in 1961 and was designed to generate reliable crime statistics for use in all aspects of law enforcement. All police forces were required to submit their crime statistics. It has taken the following forms: ucr aggregate (ucr1. 0) Incident-based ucr survey (ucr2. 0: made up of ucr2. 0 and ucr2. 1, ucr2. 2 (2004) Looking at reports allows us to see what the police is actually doing. Social and economic factors play a part as well because when the economy rises, we see a rise in burglary and theft. Problems with police-reported statistics: different policing departments use different rules for recording their information.
