CRM 2310 Lecture Notes - Lecture 18: Risk Society, Sex And The Law, Sexual Assault
Document Summary
Lecture 18: friday, april 1, 2016 risky offenders. Many theorists suggest we live in a risk society: not that society is increasingly risky but more that society is increasingly organized around mitigating risks, increasingly, we"re focused on mitigating risks to us as citizens. What might befall me? : there"s a preoccupation in looking at the future and predict what might happen. See this particularly when we look at crime prevention focus on trying to manage risk and prevent bad things from happening. Risk society theorists contend that we see a shift in society away from risks being spread amongst citizens: in the past, they would say risks were spread around citizens. No longer happening: because political and social discourses are influenced by risks, they want to make individuals responsible for dealing with the risks in their lives. Very similar to responsibilization: individuals are becoming accountable with dealing with the risks in their lives e. g. blaming the victim.
