Both the actor and audience have an agreement on the masculine gender. Many guys want to present a positive masculine image (strong, wealthy, etc ) Created and maintained through everyday interactions: impression management and role playing, heterosexual emphasis > having sex with females (i am not a homosexual, sports or cars to enhance the performance of masculinity. The test of being a real man is how well you live up to a made-up script: to be a man you have to do this and that but these are made up scripts. What is gender policing: must learn role and master tough guise or else there are consequences, examples: the pressure that you may receive from peers. Your peers make sure you are behaving as your gender. Bullies who make you stand up for yourself: consequences can be last being picked in gym class, socially excluded. Men seen as criminogenic, if females commit a crime it is seen differently.
