Information flows are increasingly difficult to control. Media, television, press used as political theatre. Communication, media, and social interaction: face to face interaction. Symbolic cues, facial expression, gestures: communication media. Stretched across space in compressed time through producers and receivers of messages. Telephone and letters: involve technical medium to transmit information, creates interpersonal bonds, intimacy, spoken/written words. Books, films, movies: across time and space with narrower symbolic cues, produced for anyone that has means to see it. Internet, computers: most open of the three, anybody with skills and equipment to use them can interact with others. Prior to the invention of the printing press in 15th century, people had face to face interactions only. Interaction mix of social life: mix of face to face and symbolic content, increase in access to non local knowledge . Physical capacities of our sense of sight and to the spatial and temporal properties of the circumstances in which we find ourselves.
