Make sure you look at the backgrounds/author"s interests: see if the author"s are biased. What is the relevance of the work to your specific topic. Look at examples in order to say whether or not they strengthen their argument. There is no such thing as good writing , there is only good re-writing. Write a reverse outline based on the essay and see if it will hold together well. Tone does it sound formal: avoid i and you , use gender neutral language. Grammar refer to workshops: punctuation, sentence structure, fused sentences and comma splices. Style sentence variety: do not use the same word repeatedly, unless there really is no synonym for that word, use a range of sentence types. Check the length of your sentences: if they are all about the same length, you may not have sufficient sentence variety.
