Coming of age story, and sacrifice is prevalent. The father has sacrificed his life for the boy to be free to make his own choices. The son really isn"t free at all: death is permeating how he sees things, his father"s death is changing his perception of his own surroundings. Families provide support for its members, structure and rules, cohesive attachment, you are willing to do anything for them, and a sense of belonging. Because he honoured his father"s choice, his ambition to go and learn has died as well (a part of himself that was connected to home) He has more kinship with mother than father. Tried to grow up and become a man in a way that makes sense to him. Father has sacrificed his life to support his family, but boy feels obliged to repay his father because he acknowledges the sacrifices his father had to make.
