Lament: a passionate expression of grief or sorrow. Talks about how the dorset"s were once a thriving people of great power, but were out- survived. The dorsets were giants who drove the vikings back to their long ships ; they broke the backs of bears and could lurk behind bone rafters . They were great with their hands: did not rely on dogs to haul their sleds, killed seals. However, they were defeated by the little men who came from the west with dogs. The seals eventually left, leading to the downfall of the dorsets around 1350 a. d. To the 20th century, people have changed immensely: apartment dwellers ; executives of neon death ; war-makers . The key thing here is that they have never imagined us in their future; how could we imagine them in the past . It is almost as if the downfall of the dorsets was not predicted.
