A bildungsroman, or coming-of-age novel, (a girl growing up), a traditional novel. The novel depicts: her school and family life, friends, imaginings, and play. However, romanticism and realism meet in this novel, just like in. Realism is . simply fidelity to actuality in its representation in literature . a term loosely synonymous with verisimilitude c. Romanticism emphasized the individual, the subjective, the irrational, the imaginative, the personal, the spontaneous, the emotional, the visionary, and the transcendental. Anne"s optimism colours both her imagination and her life. Montgomery means optimism to be the heart of her book. An inclination to put the most favorable construction upon actions and events or to anticipate the best possible outcome. Optimism also is an optimistic over emphasis of the goodness of humanity, representing in part a reaction against orthodox calvinistic theology, which regarded human nature as depraved. : appealing to the emotions especially in an excessive way. Anne does look at the bright side of things.
