Eng 3362: victoriam literature: lecture 2 (may 6th) That he is only capable of writing n melancholy . Critics of tennyson were harsh due to the new generation not understanding the prior times and the previous era"s struggles. Somehow always has the perfect words to describe strong emotion. He is so representative of the victorian age. Tremendous example to incarnate or symbolize that period of time. His work forces us to really think about the victorian age. Famous poem (often used in children"s literature) Tells a beautiful story without making the rhyming seem forces. He link emotion and landscape (nature and humanity) Introduces a mystery, the lady of shallot seems mysterious (almost mythical?) She isn"t in physical contact with anyone else. She sees shadows and reflections of others in a mirror. She is very isolated (and perhaps na ve because of it) He is literally a knight in shining armour . He seeks to take her away from the shadows.
