For mariimes it was represented of how canada was breaking from the empire. Old stock was less likely to enlist: young canadians would enlist usually. In the mariimes there was relaively fewer people born in britain, the people who they were geing had been there for a generaion or tow: moivaion wasn"t place they were born but an afectaion of empire. Early responses: first week 275 people volunteered, training started a week later, no uniforms, they had to make the uniforms locally. They did not have any puty; best colour they could do was get blue.
