An adaptive response to a situation that is perceived as challenging or threatening to the person"s well-being. This reaction can be either good or bad. It is not a disease of modern society but a normal human reaction. It is a defense mechanism which allows the rapid mobilization of energy reserves in the body to allow the organism to survive and adapt. There are three types of stress: eustress, neustress, and distress. Stress can be positive when it forces people to be creative and to find solutions to problems using all available resources. It can also push an athlete to victory. This type of stress is called eustress. Stress can be either physical or psychological: hectic lifestyle, frequent exercise, lack of sleep, overexposure to cortisol. Two people can perceive the same situation differently. Different people possess different thresholds of resistance for stress. Has a strong sense of time urgency. Has a low concern about time limitations.
