Disinfecion: freeing object of harmful microorganisms (germicides used) Anisepsis: use of germicide on surface of living skin/mucous membrane. Sterilizaion: physical/chemical means of destroying all types of microorganisms on object. Most reliable method (dry heat- destroys through oxidaion, moist heat-irreversible denaturaion of proteins via coagulaion) Pasteurizaion: heaing below boiling point to destroy vegetaive form of pathogens. Boiling: at 100*c for at least 10 min to disinfect liquids. Gamma radiaion: strong penetraing power, destroys microorganisms via oxidaion and damage to dna. Uv rays: germicidal, cause damage to neucleic acids. Physical retenion of bacteria/fungi when luid passed through membrane.
