Chapter 16: becoming a wise consumer of health services. Financing health care: predominantly publicly funded in canada, all principles linked at federal level, called medicare. Acceping responsibility for your health care: dispariies in access to uninsured services. Why some false claims may seem true: spontaneous remission: the disappearance of symptoms without any treatment, placebo efect: by product with no medicinal value. When to seek help: serious accident, injury, chet pains, high fever, recurrent vomiing. Being proacive in your health care: know ur medical history, bring someone to appts, ask providers to explain clearly, seek a second opinion. Assessing health professionals: training, license, ceriicaion, ailiaions with accredited insituions, etcc. Tradiional allopathic medicine: primary care praciioner treats rouine ailments, advises on prevenion, gives general medical advice, refers, informed consent: the right to ask quesions. Non allopathic medicine: chiropracic, massage, acupuncture, acupressure, herbalist, homeopath, naturopath. State of wealth achievable by individuals irrespecive of income levels.
