Complement congruency; nonverbal cue goes with what"s being said i. e happy with a smile. Contradict opposite of what is said i. e happy but slouchy and no smile. Accent emphasizing the emotional aspect of the message i. e talking softer when sad. Regulate social expectations i. e who talks first.
