Working in groups: the challenges of working in groups. The nature of group communication is the interaction of three or more independent people using verbal and nonverbal messages to generate meaning for the purpose of achieving a common goal (purpose/goal unifying the group). An interaction is communication between group members, while each group members remain interdependent whose actions affect every other group member. A common goal, workable group size, and interaction and interdependence must all coincide to form effective group communication. Groups generally outperform individuals, while accomplishing more and preforming better than people working alone. Diversity of knowledge and perspectives of a group - nancial costs. Make friends, socialize, and feel part of a successful team. To provide members with affection, support, and a sense of belonging. To share common interests in a friendly setting or participate in social activities. Ie. athletic team members, hobbyists, sorority and fraternity members.
