Don"t worry about the models and the theories. Medical model is the way we look at disability through the medical lens. How society thinks about disability in a medical sense. A group of academics, they mostly had spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities, they don"t represent everyone with disabilities but they are responsible for the social model. Problem is not my body, the problem is society. How its used in 2016 is different than it was used back in its day. Not all social models of disability are the same. This old one is called the strong social model of disability because it is the original. It was really easy to put on a billboard, a really easy slogan. Prior to this, people assumed that a disabled body was in need of a medical cure. It was effective instrumentally in the liberation of disabled people.
