Self-determination (autonomy): has triumphed over paternalism, all competent patients have the right to refuse treatment therefore must consent. This includes all end of life care (ex. Should the healthcare professional interfere and try to change the patient"s mind: no one should heavily encourage one treatment; physicians present treatment in a more neutral way so as not to over step boundaries. Uncertainty and rights: denting public trust in health services. Uncertainty can lead to a misdiagnosis and compromising of a patient"s rights. Decisions to give palliative care only may violate a patient"s right to better care if the patient were to improve. Medical liability issues; duty to care has been inappropriate.
