Socrates" criticism of agathon is that he does not speak truly about love agathon"s description makes love look better and more beautiful than anything else. Agathan agrees that: love is the love of something, we loves things of which we have a present need. Just because something is not beautiful does not mean it"s ugly and likewise with good vs. bad. If love possessed good and beautiful things, he would not need them. Love is between mortal and immortal; a spirit, between god and mortal. Love is desiring something which one does not have. Beauty itself is the highest love there is.
