Reconciliation
● Quebec & Canadian National Reconciliation
○ Section in constitution about reconciliation
○ Brian Mulroney about signing Quebec on with "Enthusiasm and honour"
○ Meech Lake failed, Charlottetown failed, had to make up somehow
○ 1995 Referendum was very polarizing since the vote was so close

Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples
■ Frustrated with so many failed negotiations (an indigenous mp from
Alberta did not give in during a unanimous vote)
■ After Meech, Mulroney Sent the Roy.Com to investigate all the
ways Canada has harmed First Nations people
■ They said that counting the ways they have been harmed is
not possible, and a national enquiry should be opened
■ The last residential school closed in 2006
■ 1998 Statement of Reconciliation only addressed the "abuse"
endured and not the residential schools themselves
