Imperial germany: 1871, there was a war between prussia and france and out of this war germany was born, all various independent entity, 2nd german reich authoritarian state trappings of a democracy but wasn"t really. And this will make it hard for britain and nervous the french are also nervous: late 19 century: development of competing alliances. Leads to the first world war: 1918: imperial germany comes to an end and a new political entity is created, weimar republic, negotiate the end of the war, treaty of versailles is shoved down their throat. Undermine the legitimacy of the weimar republic: economy is terrible. Hyper inflation: money gets devalued at a rapid rate. Leads to more attention: tremendous political and ideological conflicts, the great depression will comes. This is when the nazis get the chance. They are going to take advantage of the political fragmentation.
