Document Summary
Divided into two major systems/categories the central nervous system (brain, spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (all the nerves in the body outside the central nervous system)1. Receives sensory information from sensory organs from internal and external environment. Organizes and integrates this information from the sensory organs in a useful way. It then uses this information to send out messages to muscles and glands; that is how it directs and controls human behaviour. The nervous system is also responsible for our consciousness and our conscious experiences. Ii) neurons: basic function and structure of neurons. There are three types of neurons which correspond with certain functions. Sensory neurons: picks up information from sensory organs and sends it to the central nervous system via nerves. Motor neurons: carries out messages from central nervous system to the muscles neurons and organizes and integrates the information. They are responsible for the most complex tasks, and number in the billions.
