Document Summary
Reaction time: how long it take to react to stimuli: people with a higher iq have a faster reaction time than those of lower. Perceptual speed: how long do you have to be exposed to a stimulus to process/perceive. Frontal lobes: higher level of activity. Glucose consumption: brain consumes 25% of the glucose in the body, the more active the brain, the more glucose is consumed. Glutamate or dopamine: enhancement of cognitive function. *objectives 13 and 14 (a & b) are not on the first midterm but are a must for the final exam. There is a genetic component to iq. Research is being done to find which genes are related to intelligence. Gene found on chromosome 6: 1/3 of people who are intelligent have this gene vs. 1/6 of those who are not as intelligent. Heritability: see chapter 4 and 11: environmental influences. Positive correlation between schooling effects and positive correlation: group differences in intelligence in test scores.
