Document Summary
Jean piaget; biologist; first paper at the age of ten; phd in biology by. 21; spent 50 years on studying about children. Childrens minds were thought to be as the same as adults; piaget proved that wrong. Children are active learners; put their own ideas and logic to interpret the world. As children are actively, they are organizing information into a mental schema: assimilation: a new experience/idea fits into an existing schema; ex. Yes, there is a time when object permanence does not exist some point, but he had the timing wrong. He underestimated their intelligence; babies are born with an understanding with the basic laws of physics and a grasp for numbers: preoperational stage (2 to 7 years): characterized by: Animism: animating inanimate objects (teddy bear is sad) Symbolism: sees a picture of flower, start smelling picture. Egocentrism: child is incapable of understanding that there are other perspectives than their own; they feel everyone feels the same way.
