Document Summary

Can form representation, thoughts in their mind about the world but these representations are limited: centration, egocentric the idea that children can only take their own perspective in a setting. 3 mountains test designed by piaget where the child doesn"t understand what the doll"s perspective looks like: fooled by appearances. Lots of evidence of symbolic activity using symbols to represent concepts: language, deferred imitations children can imitate something that they have seen in the past, make believe play. Becomes detached from real-life conditions over time (can pick up something and pretend that its something else) Dual representation viewing an object as an object and a symbol: ex. Snoopy test demonstrated by 3 year olds but not 2. 5 year olds; viewing a model of a room with a hidden snoopy and then trying to find it in a real life version of the model.
