Parsons says that when you look at major components of society, you see that each is specialized to meet the needs of society. Normative structure: they have constructed a number of concepts; Achievement orientation: tells us what is right and wrong. Normative: tells us what is right from wrong. Diffuse: areas and situations in society that the value impacts on, you can apply it to different situations. Widespread: you can apply to many areas, cultural values are widely held by the people in society. Specific rules: specific expectations as to how you should behave in specific situations, you cannot apply them widely in society. Specific situations: applicable to specific situations (not diffuse) **values and norms are part of the normative structure. Much of our time is contributed to playing social roles.
