The uneasy relationship between canada and usa now, links back to the war of 1812 and the monroe doctrine and manifest destiny. Many of the laws and motions that canada made during the 19th century, still affect us today (economy, power, industry etc. ) The mainland british population was 40 million, but could not sustain itself. Eventually almost 1/2 of wooden planks in britain was from canada. Treaty of paris didn"t end everything between britain and usa. Canada in a way got caught in the middle. America started viewing canada as a threat due to their link to britain. Canada calls it the war of 1812 but americans calls it the second war of. Americans tried to invade canada but they never succeeded because they were inept in their military training. Aboriginal tribes were much more skilled at battle. The treaty of ghent basically restored previous boundaries. It was as if the war never happened.
