It is argued that the degree of overlap of two individuals" friendship networks varies directly with the strength of their tire to one another. If a-b and a-c ties exsit, then the amount of time c spend with b depends (in part) on the amount a spends with b and c: small-scale interaction become translated into large-scale patterns. It is important to note that all bridges are weak ties: weak ties are important in long run as they interact outside your main group allowing opportunities you wouldn"t normally encounter.
