Document Summary

Nervous system is made up of electrical excitability and chemical/electrical synapses\ But not all organisms have one but they do have genes for nervous system function. Challenges in understanding ns: morphology, which influences properties of neurons, how neurons connect via synapse, how do neural circuits affect behavior, physiology, memory even simple circuits show lots of patterns (by neurotransmitters) Golgi stain labels neurons black (reazione nera) and is only on dead tissues. Genes at protein level can be looked at by: ecotopic genes which can label gfp, mrfp (dna), people use dna sequences of gfp and make new fluorescence. Brainbow dna with 1 promoter upstream of 4 xfps (in trnalsation, only 1 xfp is made because stop codon) You can put it in another organism. It has lox sites between xfp, cre recombinase snips them to make lox face each other. 3 xfps = 10 combos of color so technicolor golgi stain.
