Begins around age 2, but particularly after age 3-4. Prior to 2, people experience infantile amnesia (i. e. , the inability to recall events from early life) This may also be owing to a diff memory style prior to the reliance on lang to recall memories. By age 1-2, children recognize that they exist independently across time + space. Although infants and toddlers have basic mem skills, lang enables convo and children begin to form narratives of their experiences. When rents ask open-ended ?s that allow children to elaborate on their experiences, they form autobiographical memories at earlier ages.
