There are 4 main theories which came together to form the sociological science. Historical shifts leading to the development of sociology: growth of science. Celebration of science people getting awards for things being developed and new discoveries being made. Emile durkheim positivism study- provided model to which you could approach the study of something. Provided new way for people to understand their surroundings an d the social world - move toward secularism and away from religion. Refers to significant change in the economic system. We had an agricultural system people owned land and worked it with their families context of family unit. Industrialization caused a move away from agriculture and shift towards industries shift towards capitalism. In industry there is often one factory owner and many people working under as opposed to the agriculture sector: urbanization. Factories located in urban centers shift towards factories led to shift in ownership as well as family life.
