Any set of ideas that give an account of the social world. Power is distributed socially [basically ideas and values that uphold this] Some are dominant but always competing ideologies. Ex libertarianism (us tea party) vs. social democracy (canada) Insider: ideological claims seem obviously true, natural and universally applicable. Outsider: ideological claims seem arbitrary, idiosyncratic and false. How do we remain peace and discourse with people who view the world differently than us. Power relationships are characterized and maintained by ideology. Who ever is in charge rules the ideology. Forcefully imposed or willing subscribed to (or both) Leadership or dominance, especially by one state or social group over others. Ideologies become hegemony when adopted by dominate class.
