We assume most of the times that all plants are autotrophs, making their own organic carbon molecules from the atmospheric co2 and sunlight . Monotropa uniflora is a heterotrophic plant that lacks chlorophyll known as ghost flower or indian pipe , therefore cannot photosynthesize. Some plants, such as monotropa, are completely heterotrophic, as they live off of organic carbon that is obtained from other plants.
