Document Summary

Bioc19 lecture 1 september 8th 2016. Development does not stop at one point, instead it is continuous. Developmental biology focuses on how we grow from a single cell to all the different cells types in the body. What the dna is, how it defines an individual is referred to as the phenotype. We study at the molecular level to see what is going on in the cell. We all have different types of cells but all of them origin from a single cell. The life continues over generation, where the life of the older ones disappears and new life is formed. This is a diagram that shows how all the different types of cell have originated. The first embryo must contain all the future embryos. Preformation theory says that there is a preformed embryo that develops into a bigger form over time. Epigenesis says that the new structures came from previously existing structures.
