Document Summary

Lec 27: expression of genetic information (part 1) Genetic information in dna directs the activities in a cell. Dna transcription rna translation protein. Proteins provide structure and carry out many essential activities in a cell. Flow of information runs from dna through mrna to a synthesis of a protein. Ribose has a oh group where deoxyribose has a h on 2" carbon. Rna uses 5 ringed sugar called ribose. Dna uses 5 ringed sugar called deoxyribose. Uracil has a h where thymine has a ch 3 group. Dna is double stranded, rna is single stranded. Template strand: contains information that will be made into rna. Reading the template strand is 3" to 5". Transcription is initiated at a promoter sequence and ends at a terminator sequence. The transcript is synthesized in a 5" to 3" direction. Rna polymerase and associated proteins bind to the dna duplex at the promoter.
