Novels and films can play with time and place. You can be in different places in the same paragraph, chapter, etc. Critics tried to coin it as photo plays, but people who went to watch it called it films. Depiction of the real world - real time and space. Mustenberg sees it differently, in talking about how we think. We are focused on the details, and everything looses sight - close ups, flashbacks, intertwined scenes. Not just a recording of the real world, but the way we think (our inner lives) When we"re attentive we"re creating focus and zooming in. Memory, dream, imagination - pictorial rep on screen is always disappointing. Historical time period - post wwi until post wwii. Who is he writing to, there"s a you Miss kenton"s letter is what sparks his travel. The boss presumes that there"s a romantic motivation for his trip. How much of this is a confessional and professional.
