Infinitives are often used after verbs like aimer: e. g. J"aime voyager (i like to travel / i like traveling) + (ne) + main verb + (pas) + infinitive: e. g. Lisa aime jouer au foot. (lisa likes to play soccer: only main (first) verb conjugated --- infinitive remains in its infinitive (unconjugated) form, construction can be affirmative or negative: Non, nous n"aimons pas voyager: in english, verbs in their infinitive forms are preceded by the word to. Manger = to eat jouer = to play: french often uses an infinitive where the equivalent english sentence contains a verb ending in ing. J"aime chanter (i like singing or i like to sing) Devoir (to have to): je dois, tu dois. Vouloir (to want to): je veux, tu veux. Pouvoir (to be able to): je peux, tu peux. To invite a friend: est-ce que tu veux ? (do you want to ?, est-ce que tu peux ? (can you ?)
